When you win a Copart vehicle online, you pay a bidding fee on top of the buyer fee. How much depends on whether you bid live or placed a pre-bid. The Copart fee calculator lets you switch between methods.

Vehicles under $100 carry no bidding fee. In-person bidding at yards that allow it avoids the virtual bid fee entirely.

Live bidding

Live online bidding lets you react during the auction, which helps if you are unsure of a car’s value or want to see where bidding goes. You pay the higher fee for that flexibility.

Pre-bidding

A pre-bid is a maximum you set before the live auction starts. Copart bids on your behalf up to that amount. The fee is lower, and it forces you to decide your limit calmly beforehand, which many experienced buyers prefer.

Does the saving matter?

On a $3,500 car the difference is about $21. That is small next to the buyer fee, but across dozens of cars a year it adds up. The bigger benefit of pre-bidding is discipline.

Setting your limit

Use the resale section of the calculator to work out the highest bid that still leaves you a profit, then enter that as your pre-bid. See how to calculate your maximum bid.
