Stripe’s standard US pricing
Stripe charges per successful payment with no setup or monthly fees on its standard plan. A domestic card payment online costs 2.9% + $0.30. Card-present payments through Stripe Terminal cost 2.7% + $0.05. ACH Direct Debit costs 0.8% with a $5 cap, which makes it far cheaper for large invoices.
Add-on fees
Several situations add a percentage on top of the base card rate:
- International cards issued outside the US: +1.5%.
- Currency conversion when the payment currency differs from your payout currency: +1%.
- Manually entered card numbers: +0.5%.
- Stripe Invoicing: 0.4% per paid invoice on the Starter plan.
A payment from a UK customer, charged in pounds and paid out in dollars, can easily cost 5.4% + $0.30.
Refunds and disputes
Stripe does not return its processing fee when you refund a payment. A dispute or chargeback carries a separate $15 fee, which is returned if you win the dispute.
Large businesses can ask Stripe for custom pricing. If yours is different, change the numbers in the fee settings.
