Watch the steps
Look at the jump from $2,999 to $3,000: the buyer fee rises by $45, and the virtual bid fee may rise too at other steps. If a car is worth $3,100 to you all-in, a bid of $2,999 and a bid of $3,050 are not $51 apart; they are more like $96 apart.
Before the auction, note the tier boundaries around your target price, and decide whether you are willing to go past them.
Non-clean titles cost more
Salvage, certificate of destruction and other non-clean titles use a higher fee schedule. Always check the title type on the lot page, and use the fee chart in your Copart account for those vehicles.
Payment method matters
The fees above assume secured payment such as wire transfer. Paying by other methods can add costs. Check the payment options in your account before you win.

What is the Copart buyer fee on a $5,000 car?
For a clean title with secured payment, the estimated buyer fee is $775, before the virtual bid fee, gate fee and environmental fee.
Does Copart charge a percentage buyer fee?
Only above $15,000, where the clean-title buyer fee is 7.5% of the price. Below that, it is a fixed amount by tier.
