Square invoices are free to create and send. You pay only when a customer pays, and the fee depends on whether they use a card or their bank. Select the invoice options in the Square fee calculator to check any amount.

The rates

  • Card payments on invoices: 3.3% + $0.30.
  • ACH bank transfer payments: 1%, with a $1 minimum.

Card vs ACH

Square invoice fees by payment method. Calculated with the default rates in our calculators.
PricePaid by cardPaid by ACH
$100.00$3.60$1.00
$250.00$8.55$2.50
$500.00$16.80$5.00
$1,000.00$33.30$10.00
$2,500.00$82.80$25.00
$5,000.00$165.30$50.00

On a $2,500 invoice, the difference is $57.80. For businesses that invoice large amounts, encouraging bank payments pays off quickly.

How to steer clients to ACH

  • Mention the bank transfer option in your quote and on the invoice itself.
  • Offer a small early-payment or bank-transfer discount, if that suits your business.
  • For retainers, set up recurring invoices and ask for bank payment from the start.

Getting the full invoice amount

To receive a set amount after card fees, divide it plus $0.30 by 0.967. To receive $1,000, invoice $1,034.44. The calculator’s take-home field works this out for you.

Other options

Stripe’s ACH is capped at $5 per payment, which is cheaper still for very large invoices. PayPal invoices cost 3.49% + $0.49. Compare in PayPal invoice fees and Stripe ACH vs card fees.
