Open the Amazon US fee calculatorAmazon gives new sellers a choice between two plans. The difference in cost is simple once you know your monthly volume. You can switch the plan and enter units per month in the Amazon seller fee calculator to compare.
The two plans
- Individual: no monthly fee, $0.99 per item sold.
- Professional: $39.99 a month, no per-item fee.
Both plans pay the same referral fees and fulfillment fees.
The break-even point
$39.99 divided by $0.99 is about 40. If you sell more than 40 units a month, Professional is cheaper. Below that, Individual costs less.
Here is how the Professional subscription spreads across units for a $25 item. The Individual plan would add a flat $0.99 to each unit instead.
| Units a month | Total fees | Payout | Fees % |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $7.75 | $17.25 | 31.00% |
| 20 | $5.75 | $19.25 | 23.00% |
| 40 | $4.75 | $20.25 | 19.00% |
| 80 | $4.25 | $20.75 | 17.00% |
| 200 | $3.95 | $21.05 | 15.80% |
At 10 units, Professional adds $4.00 per unit. At 200 units, it adds $0.20.
Features that matter more than the fee
The Professional plan unlocks tools many sellers need:
- Eligibility for the Buy Box on most listings.
- Advertising through Sponsored Products.
- Bulk listing and inventory tools, reports and API access.
- The ability to sell in some restricted categories.
If you are serious about selling, these features usually matter more than the subscription cost. Individual suits people testing the waters or clearing out a few items.
Switching plans
You can move between plans in Seller Central. Start on Individual if you are unsure, and move up once you pass about 40 units a month or need advertising. For how plan fees fit with everything else, read Amazon seller fees explained.
