What each platform charges
eBay charges a 13.6% final value fee for most categories plus $0.40 per order, with the first 250 listings each month free.
Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing of 3% plus $0.25. Together that is about 9.5% plus $0.45. If the sale comes from Offsite Ads, Etsy adds 15% (or 12% for larger shops), capped at $100.

On a normal sale Etsy costs roughly $4 less per $100. When an order is attributed to Offsite Ads, Etsy becomes the more expensive option by a wide margin.
What the fees do not show
- Audience. Etsy buyers look for handmade, personalised and vintage items and often pay more for them. eBay reaches a bigger general audience and is strong for collectibles, parts and branded goods.
- Listing costs. Etsy charges for every listing, even unsold ones, and renews it every four months. eBay’s free allowance helps sellers with large catalogues.
- Offsite Ads share. Many shops see only a small share of orders from Offsite Ads. Check your own shop stats to estimate your real average.
A practical rule
Sell handmade and personalised goods on Etsy, and branded, used or collectible goods on eBay. If an item suits both, compare net profit rather than fee rates. A higher price on Etsy can more than cover a slightly higher fee.
